Maybe I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that Mahal was brought back with the intention of giving him a better push. But having him start losing matches right out of the gate is just not a good look for Jinder. Honestly, I feel bad for him, because he really is a very talented performer, he just needs the right opportunity.
