WWE Monday Night Raw preview: 9 May, 2016

The emotional ride

Another step towards Extreme Rules is all set to be taken this Monday night. The last outing that WWE had for Monday Night Raw was a great one. They slowly tuned up the audience with some good matches and solid storytelling before closing the show with an excellent segment where Roman Reigns and AJ Styles showed why they deserve to be in the main event scene.

Thanks to this newly found character depths, there is a certain amount of excitement regarding the upcoming episode of Raw as well. As we are just hours away, here is a look at all the potential segments that WWE might come up with.

The messed up Intercontinental title scene

He has a red target on his back

The intercontinental championship is seeing a string of contenders right now. No matter where a match happens, it is bound to end in interferences these days in the mid card and the likes of The Miz, Cesaro, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn is to blame. These four superstars are clearly the ones in the running to win the title but WWE needs to come up with some intelligent booking.

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

We are apparently tired of the interference formula and it is time that the company started looking at something else. Also, making the match official for Extreme rules would be a great move as it would help to create an even bigger hype whenever these men cross paths.

The screwjob

Nattie screwed Nattie?

In an interesting turn of events, WWE almost replicated the Montreal Screwjob at WWE Payback when Charlotte and Ric Flair apparently screwed Natalya. Natalya, who didn’t tap out at the pay-per-view was announced as the loser and it has helped her to get more sympathy and stamp her place as a top babyface in the divas division.

Charlotte, meanwhile, continues to live up to the legacy of her father as the dirtiest player in the game. It would be interesting to see where WWE takes this feud to but it is good to see that there is actually some input into the women’s championship as far as the storytelling is concerned.

Tag team division makes us drool

#1 Contenders

The tag team division of WWE is on a high. There are a lot of teams worth watching and WWE, to their credit are giving most of them some quality television time as well. The Vaudevillains are getting their shot at the title at Extreme Rules but that does not mean the other teams will be sleeping through this week.

The microphone battle between the newly promoted Vaudevillains and the well-established New Day will be an interesting one. WWE needs to address the Enzo Amore situation soon as Big Cass is currently going on a lone run in the division. This, however, is a good thing for both as Enzo could get a huge pop when he returns while Cass is having a chance to showcase his brilliance.

When sibling love goes overboard

Friction please

At Payback, we expected a major announcement from Vince McMahon regarding who runs Monday Night Raw. We called for a lot of things like the brand split but eventually, Vince decided that it was better if he created an in-house competition between Shane McMahon and Stephanie McMahon by giving both of them the power.

The first week under this dual-power seemed to be a good one but WWE is yet to explore the friction between these two. We might get to see more of that in the coming weeks and starting it this week wouldn’t be a bad idea at all.

The best feud in WWE

Best feud right now

When WWE first announced that AJ Styles was going to be the first major opponent for Roman Reigns after WrestleMania, there was some criticism. Everyone expected AJ to get buried at one point but thanks to the introduction of Karl Anderson, Doc Gallows, and some raw human emotions, this feud has gone on to become a stellar one.

Both Reigns and AJ Styles are stuck between the dimension of heel and babyface with neither men not falling completely into either category. The emotional distress that AJ is going through makes us invest while Reigns showcasing that his weakness is his family made him look more original than what WWE had projected over the past couple of years.
