What's the story?
In the aftermath of WWE's Elimination Chamber PPV, current Raw Women's Champion Alexa Bliss spoke to ESPN about a range of topics, including her amazing Twisted Bliss spot from the top of the pod, and about getting emotional in her post-match promo.
In case you didn’t know…
Alexa Bliss successfully defended her Raw Women's Championship in the first ever Women's Elimination Chamber match this past Sunday against five other women. The match had plenty of great spots but one moment that stands out was when Bliss hit Sasha Banks with her 'Twisted Bliss' finisher from the top of the pod.
After the match, in her interview with Renee Young, the Goddess appeared to tear up a little, with the crowd chanting 'you deserve it' at her. But the next moment, she was back to her usual self, telling the fans how they would never achieve any of their dreams, revealing that she swerved the crowd, and how!
The heart of the matter
In her interview with ESPN, when asked if she shed real tears, Alexa revealed that they were indeed real for a moment, but that she had to get back in the skin of her character the next minute.
"Those were real tears for a minute, and then I had to be mean. It was great because I knew what my next move was. I was very excited to see how the crowd was going to react. I am very proud of the women's division and genuinely happy that this happened and the fact that I got the 'You deserve it!' chant from the crowd, I don't take that for granted; it's amazing for our fans to do, but at the end of the day, I'm the bad guy and I can't have them cheering me. It wouldn't be very Bliss of me if I thanked them for cheering me."
On being asked about her 'Twisted Bliss' from the top of a pod, Bliss admitted that she was indeed terrified to carry it out, never having done it from such a height before.
"I'm not going to lie. I've done the 'Twisted Bliss' off of Braun Strowman's shoulders before, but that's not nothing to be on top of an Elimination Chamber pod.
What's next?
The rumor mill has it that WWE is currently sticking to its plan of having Asuka take on Alexa Bliss in a one-on-one bout at WrestleMania 34 at New Orleans.
Author's take
The Goddess is truly one of the most well-rounded superstars on the entire WWE roster today. Her mic skills are next to none and even inside the ring, she is improving with each passing day. She is on top of the Women's division right now and there is no doubt that she deserves to be there.
