- At Extreme Rules, Kofi Kingston was defeated by Dean Ambrose, losing his WWE United States Championship to the mouthpiece of The Shield in the process. Kofi has asked for a rematch and it has been granted. The match will take place on this Friday night’s episode of Smackdown.
- After Monday Night RAW ended last night, trainers continued to check on Triple H to make sure he was okay, suffering an unknown injury during his match with Curtis Axel. When asked if he remembered anything from the match, he only remembered his entrance, and could not answer when asked what day it was. While the severity of the injury has not been confirmed, this is the sign of a potential concussion.
- While he did not appear on RAW, former WWE Champion Rob Van Dam was backstage at the event, and there have been rumours for several months that he is slated to return to WWE. RVD was seen at this year’s Hall of Fame ceremony to spend time with friends and see Mick Foley inducted, and the rumours began circulating at that point. It was believed that he was still signed to TNA, but he has not been seen or used by the company since February 28th of this year, when he lost the World X-Division title to current champion Kenny King. On March 18th, he was interviewed by former WWE diva Shelly Martinez and kept referring to TNA in the past-tense and was discussing “life after TNA”.
- Rey Mysterio is still on the shelf following his most recent injury, and is hoping to return to WWE later this year. After meeting with his doctor, Rey tweeted the following: “Great news today with Doc Andrews! Revisit on the 19th of June for a minor procedure and still trying to b back in the ring by late August!” It will be interesting to see what comes of this, as WWE does not appear to be very keen on Rey anymore. Thanks to injury-after-injury, several higher-ups behind the scenes have described Rey as unreliable and injury-prone, and if he does return, it is likely he will be kept out of the main event for that reason. There was even talk about trying to get Rey out of his WWE contract so they wouldn’t have to deal with him anymore. While Rey still gets great reactions from the crowd and moves merchandise, he cannot perform at the level he used to be able to due to years of working a high-risk in-ring style.
