WWE news and notes: 5-24-13

  • Titus O’Neil, one half of the Prime-Time Players, recently did an interview about playing in the Canadian Football League and making the transition into pro wrestling. In comments for The Leader-Post, O’Neil cited former World Champion Batista as the reason he became a pro wrestler, stating the following: “If you would have told me a few years ago that I would be a WWE superstar today, I would tell you you’re a fool. If it wasn’t for a very good friend of mine and my neighbour, Dave Batista, I can assure you I wouldn’t be here today.”
  • Several recently released NXT stars have created their own YouTube show. The show is called Funny Don’t Make Money, and stars Percy Watson, Briley Pierce (brother of Dolph Ziggler), Derrick Bateman and Trent Barreta. The first two episodes are available for viewing now.
  • In more news on the injury front, it appears that The Big Show may be on the injured list with John Cena, Dolph Ziggler and Roman Reigns, to name a few. PWInsider is reporting that Show may have torn his labrum, which is an injury to the shoulder joint.
  • Former WWE and WCW star Scott Hall is reportedly doing very well with “Diamond” Dallas Page’s yoga program, and his son Cody will be moving in with Hall, Page and Jake “The Snake” Roberts in order to further encourage his father’s physical rehabilitation, as well as take the yoga classes himself. The classes have proven to be very effective, with stars such as Chris Jericho and Daniel Bryan claiming it has done wonders for their overall health, as well as their flexibility and recovery time.
  • WWE Hall of Famer Ted “The Million Dollar Man” DiBiase has launched a new website, HeartOfDavidMinistry.com. For those that don’t know, DiBiase became man of the cloth after retiring, and has been very devoted to a religious lifestyle in the years since then.
  • WWE’s developmental system NXT has hired a new associate producer. That person is Ryan Katz, who independent wrestling fans might know better as “GQ Money” or “Fabian Kaelin”. Katz has been involved in wrestling for over ten years, and despite not being a major name, has a reputation for having a great mind for the business and is highly respected by his peers. Katz has been seen on WWE television in the past, recently appearing in the Kane/Daniel Bryan “hug therapy” skits. It is likely he will not be used on television, however. Katz recently retired as an active competitor, and has stated on his Twitter account (@IAmSmiley) that he will be working exclusively behind-the-scenes for NXT.
