What's the story?
Per Dave Meltzer on an edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the WWE Superstars had varying reactions to the news of Rich Swann's arrest.
Apparently, most of the WWE locker room was shocked, however, a few Superstars who knew Swann, his wife and their relationship weren't taken aback. Besides, other performers who knew the couple from working together on the indies weren't too surprised by the development.
In case you didn't know...
Rich Swann was recently involved in a public altercation with his wife, indie wrestler Su Yung (real name--Vannarah Riggs)--as two witnesses corroborated the account that Swann was driving erratically, shortly after which Riggs jumped out when the car slowed down.
Corey Graves deleted his Tweet! More details HERE.
However, Swann followed her and put her in a headlock after a brief tussle, dragging her back to the vehicle and taking her away forcibly. Swann was arrested on charged with false imprisonment/kidnapping and misdemeanour battery; but later released from the Alachua County Jail in Gainesville, Florida.
The heart of the matter
Addressing the ongoing situation with Rich Swann and Sy Yung aka Vannarah Riggs, veteran professional wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer asserted that most of the WWE Superstars were shocked at the news, but the ones who were familiar with Swann and Yung knew that this sort of volatile incident is a realistic possibility.
Furthermore, it was revealed that a few other performers who knew Swann and Yung from their time on the indies--what with the latter still competing in the indies--opined that both individuals were 'broken' owing to unfortunate incidents over the course of their respective lives.
Additionally, it was noted that Swann and Yung's relationship was quite combustible right from the get-go, and although they found love in each other, the incident which took place hasn't come as a surprise to many of their close acquaintances.
What's next?
Rich Swann was set to compete against Drew Gulak in order to determine the number-1 contender for Enzo Amore's WWE Cruiserweight Championship. However, the WWE has now suspended him and will terminate his contract should the allegations of domestic violence against him be proven in court.
Author's take
This is an unfortunate incident all around, and given Swann and Su Yung's radio silence on the situation, several questions remain unanswered.
Here's hoping, the authorities get to the bottom of this at the earliest. Justice will be served.
