WWE News: Backstage news on the plans for New Day on SmackDown LIVE

New Day not expected to debut on WWE SmackDown for the next few weeks.

What’s the story?

According to PWInsider, the WWE may be planning to hold off the New Day’s debut on SmackDown until Kofi Kingston is deemed fit to return.

In case you didn’t know...

The New Day was formed back in 2014, comprising Big E (Ettore Ewen), Xavier Woods (Austin Watson) and the aforementioned Kingston (Kofi Sarkodie-Mensah) as its founding members. New Day are 2-time WWE tag-team champions, with all three members being collectively recognised as champs, under the Freebird rule.

The heart of the matter:

Kingston, who is a 4-time WWE Intercontinental and 3-time WWE United States champion, recently suffered an ankle injury during his tag-team matchup against The Revival on a recent episode of Monday Night RAW.

On April 10th, WWE revealed on its official website that Kingston would require surgery for the aforementioned ankle injury and will be out of action for several weeks. The company plans to keep Big E and Xavier Woods on the shelf until Kofi recovers.

What’s next?

The New Day have been drafted from Monday Night RAW to SmackDown Live, with their return being postponed due to Kingston’s absence. The WWE are likely to keep Big E and Woods off its television programming for the next few weeks at the very least.

Author’s take:

Kofi’s injury seems legitimate and not a part of any pre-planned storyline. It’s essential to note that Grade A ankle sprains take only about 5-14 days to heal, whereas Grade B ankle injuries require at least 4-6 weeks for recovery.

We, here at Sportskeeda, wish Kofi Kingston the best of luck in his rehabilitation and recovery. As for his teammates, we expect to see the connoisseurs of the BOOTY-O’s back in the next few weeks with Kingston in tow.
