What's the story?
Batista is now one of the best known former WWE wrestlers in the world since he's part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there was a time when he was just known as a former World Champion. He has finally revealed the real reason why he decided to walk away from WWE back in 2010.
In case you didn't know...
Batista had battled a number of injuries throughout the course of his wrestling career, but back in 2010, he was someone that was seen as the future of the company before he made the decision to walk away.
In the storyline, Batista quit the company after he was ordered to face Randy Orton on an episode of Raw more than eight years ago, but at the time it was reported that he decided to leave because he didn't like the "direction that the company was going in". He has returned to the company since and seems to have put all of this behind him.
The heart of the matter
Batista has become a successful actor over the past few years and after taking part in an interview with TalkSport (H/T HeroicHollywood), Batista was able to reveal the real reason why he left WWE back in 2010.
“It came about out of spite. First, I have to say it came from me discovering I was a horrible actor and I wanted to be a better actor and I wanted to do it while I was still with WWE. They would not give me the opportunity within the company. So I said, ‘I should be given the opportunity to do it outside of the company.’ They said, ‘absolutely not.'” I said, ‘Well I’m going to let my contract run out and I’m going to leave.’ So that’s exactly what I did and I set out to be an actor.”
What's next?
There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Batista and his future in the ring, but the former World Champion currently seems happy in the acting world and doesn't look as though he will be returning to WWE anytime soon.
He did speak up about a possible return to WWE, but apparently, his calls were not returned.
