What’s the story?
Betting odds are one of the most interesting things to look at when it comes to the future of WWE. According to betwrestling.com, there are some especially interesting odds when it comes to the man who will take the WWE Universal Championship from Brock Lesnar.
In case you didn’t know...
Brock Lesnar became the WWE Universal Champion when he defeated Goldberg at WrestleMania 33. As has been the case with Lesnar since his return to the company, he has been conspicuous by his absence on Monday Night Raw since the night after the Showcase of the Immortals.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
During Lesnar’s last appearance on Raw, Paul Heyman intimated that a clash between his client and Roman Reigns was seemingly on the horizon. He said that it would be only right that the two men who defeated The Undertaker at WrestleMania would collide over the Beast’s newly won prize.
Heyman was interrupted by Braun Strowman, who told Brock Lesnar to watch what he did to Roman Reigns. Since then, Strowman has been on the warpath, brutalizing Roman Reigns in amazing fashion two weeks ago. This past Monday, Strowman superplexed the Big Show and broke the ring before getting back to his feet.
The heart of the matter
Based on odds that were posted by Grosvenor Casinos, the odds to dethrone Brock Lesnar as WWE Universal Champion are as follows:
Roman Reigns -250
Braun Strowman +175
Finn Balor +400
Samoa Joe +700
Seth Rollins +700
Bray Wyatt +1000
Dean Ambrose +1500
Jeff Hardy +1500
Matt Hardy +1700
The Miz +1700
Chris Jericho +2000
CM Punk +2500
The Rock +3300
Kurt Angle +5000
Triple H +5000
What’s next?
Brock Lesnar is not expected to appear on WWE television again until sometime this summer. Roman Reigns will take on Braun Strowman at WWE Payback on April 30th.
Author’s take
It is widely believed that the match between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman at WWE Payback will be an unofficial number one contenders’ match. It is also rumored that the plan for the WrestleMania 34 main event involves Reigns taking on Lesnar for the Universal Championship, which is likely why Reigns is a considerable favorite in the betting market.
All signs seem to point to Strowman feuding with Lesnar over the title throughout the summer months, but I doubt he would take it from Lesnar. That isn’t to say that he shouldn’t take it from him, though.
Braun Strowman has been the most well-booked character on WWE television since WrestleMania. While I have no faith in the WWE to continue that, I hope that I’m wrong.
