What's the story?
This week's episode of WWE SmackDown Live was an extremely important day for the New Day. After a long time out of the ring following a meniscus injury in April, Big E finally returned to the ring to rejoin his New Day brethren.
New Day opened SmackDown Live this week, but things did not go well for Big E at all. While they were confronted by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn at the beginning of the show, it was a backstage spot where Big E was found injured by Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston.

The New Day found themselves confronting Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn at the beginning of the episode. Owens was less than happy at having lost the title opportunity he had at WWE Money in the Bank 2019.
Zayn was scheduled to face Kofi Kingston later in the night, but Owens walked back to the backstage area fuming at the New Day.
The heart of the matter
It appears that the anger of Kevin Owens was something that would come back to harm the New Day.
They found Big E writhing in pain backstage, while he was clutching his leg. It appeared that he had been badly injured by an ambush and he claimed loudly that it was Kevin Owens who had done it.
This means that Kevin Owens had somehow ambushed Big E backstage and injured his already hurt leg again.
What's next?
With Big E injured and Kofi Kingston assaulted, it turned out to not be the biggest day for the New Day after all. Hopefully both Superstars will be fine and their injuries are not too severe.
