Undoubtedly, The New Day has reinvigorated the WWE tag team picture. While teams such as The Usos, The Shield, Cesaro & Tyson Kidd, Goldust & Cody Rhodes, and the Primetime Players were doing very well as mainstays in the division, there was still something the fans were yearning that was missing from the standpoint of exciting characters. Then, enter Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods: The New Day.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Initially, it appeared as if the trio were going to be a knockoff of the Nation of Domination, with Woods appearing during Big E and Kofi’s matches to try to recruit them. Then, after a brief moment away from television due to current events, Vince McMahon decided to have them as jovial, fun-loving characters who promised that a new day will arise in the WWE. This ultra-babyface decision did not last long, as fans started to boo the team.
As a result, shortly after WrestleMania 31, The New Day turned heel and achieved great success, winning the WWE Tag Team Championship at both Extreme Rules and SummerSlam. They have been champions ever since their second reign commenced, over 425 days as of this article.
In their quest to be the longest reigning tag team champions of all time, currently held by the Demolition at 478 days, they have reached the level as being some of the most popular superstars in all of WWE. Due to elements such as witty catch-phrases and Wood’s “Francesca” trombone, both adults and kids give them a resounding ovation every time they appear in an arena.
One of the catchy phrases that The New Day says, which precedes their entrance music, is “Awwwww (hosting city)! Don’t you dare be sour! Clap for your world-famous, two-time champs, and feeeeel... the powaaaaaah!”
Many wondered how Big E was able to give that intro every time, seeing how the team would come right out afterwards. In a recent tweet by WWE, they pulled back the curtain to show how the intro was done. Positioned right behind the curtain, Big E uses a microphone to elicit a cheap pop from the host city, while his cohorts act in their typical fun-loving way.
As a spectator, you can clearly see that The New Day is having the best time of their life. While each of them, especially Kofi Kingston, achieved success as a singles competitor either in WWE or NXT, joining them together was indeed a refresher to each of their careers, as they are being cemented as one of the best tag teams in WWE history.
