What’s the story?
After Braun Strowman brutally attacked Roman Reigns on Monday Night Raw, several fans took it upon themselves to request that WWE fire Strowman as punishment. Strowman took to Twitter to share his indifference to his critics and said that he does what he wants and that the petition will change nothing.
In case you didn’t know...
Reigns was being interviewed by Michael Cole about the possible retirement of The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33. Before Reigns could elaborate, Strowman emerged and devastated Reigns with a variety of attacks. Eventually, his attack ended with Strowman tipping an ambulance over and Reigns being sent to a local medical facility.
The petition for Strowman to be fired is on change.org and was created by Jennifer Kuchler. She updated the petition recently and claimed that after talking to someone who works for the WWE, she will be taking the post down.
She would update the petition several hours ago asking people to stop signing it. The petition currently has nearly 2,000 signatures and some of the comments are filled with fans informing Kuchler that the Strowman-Reigns segment was a work.
The heart of the matter
Here is the tweet Strowman sent out addressing the fans:
Strowman would send out a tweet on Monday Night Raw following his destruction of Reigns:
What’s next?
This isn’t the first WWE petition that has been launched and it definitely won’t be the last.
As the WWE does more and more creative segments like these, expect to see more people get upset. There are several Twitter campaigns and petitions that fans create that ultimately go nowhere and this petition joined that list the moment it was created.
Author’s take
Not only did the Strowman-Reigns segment generate tonnes of buzz, but it also demonstrated how committed Strowman is to kayfabe.
It would’ve been easy for Strowman to send out a message to try and explain himself, but the fact that he stayed true to his character is a great thing. Many fans have gravitated to him since the brand split was revived and this is just another reason to appreciate Strowman’s talents.
