What's the story?
WWE's yearly extravaganza WrestleMania is past us and the show saw brand new Raw Tag Team Champions being crowned. The Bar lost the titles to Braun Strowman and, well, a 10-year-old kid named Nicholas that Strowman randomly chose from the crowd.
The Monster Among Men has now revealed the reason why he picked a kid as his WrestleMania partner.
In case you didn’t know…
A Battle Royal was held on Raw a few weeks ago to determine the number one contenders for the Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania. To everyone's utter shock, Braun Strowman won the bout single-handedly.
While initially insisting that he did not need a tag team partner, Strowman was later told by GM Kurt Angle that he had to pick someone. That someone was rumored to be Superstars ranging from Bobby Lashley to Rey Mysterio, but WWE pulled off a shocker at the show.
The heart of the matter
When the time came for the Monster Among Men to reveal his tag team partner, Braun shocked the audience by stating that his partner would not be anyone from the locker room. In fact, Strowman told the live audience that one of them would be his partner and set off into the crowd looking for a suitable candidate.
Finally, he emerged with a young 10-year-old named Nicholas. Even more shockingly, Strowman and Nicholas beat The Bar to become the Raw Tag Team Champions. In a post-match interview, Strowman has now revealed why he made such a bizarre choice (courtesy Cagesideseats):
“You know, honestly, I didn’t have a plan coming into WrestleMania. I did a lot of thinking and soul searching in my time back out in the woods when I’m relaxing by myself and just something about the energy in the air here tonight in New Orleans... something in my heart told me this is what I needed to do. So I went out into the crowd and I found this young man and he helped me pull a victory for both of us tonight here at WrestleMania.”
What's next?
It remains to be seen what WWE intends to do with the team. Will Braun and Nicholas have more matches together? Only time will tell!
Author's take
It is safe to say that absolutely nobody saw this coming at WrestleMania. It is clear that Braun is set to be the face of the company going ahead, and this is probably a storyline that will make him much more popular with the younger audience.
