What’s the story?
Braun Strowman was written off TV this past Monday Night Raw to correct a nagging elbow injury. The surgery’s recovery time may keep him out of action until after Great Balls of Fire, but Cageside Seats have reported that Strowman will still end up having his rumoured match with Brock Lesnar.
In case you didn’t know...
Lesnar won the Universal Championship from Goldberg at WrestleMania 33 and has yet to defend his championship. Lesnar’s first title defence is currently being advertised for the WWE Great Balls of Fire Show in July and one of his rumoured opponents was Strowman.

However, news broke that Strowman was injured and needed surgery to fix his elbow. The surgery’s recovery time ranges from 4 to 8 weeks and will cause the Mountain Among Men to miss the Extreme Rules pay-per-view. However, Strowman’s status for Great Balls of Fire is supposedly still up in the air.
The heart of the matter
Cageside Seats reported earlier in the week that Strowman wasn’t ruled out for returning at Great Balls of Fire, but the WWE were still planning on Lesnar fighting someone else. The latest reports from them indicate that Finn Bálor will be Lesnar’s opponent for Great Balls of Fire and Strowman won’t be returning until SummerSlam.
What’s next?
If the latest reports prove to be true, then Strowman’s recovery time may end up costing him some major momentum and television time.
Two months away from WWE television after weeks of consistent entertainment will make fans either crave Strowman’s return or give their attention to whoever takes his place as Lesnar’s opponent.
Author’s Take
If the reports are to be believed, then Strowman will be missing in action for the full two months required for elbow surgery recovery.
Strowman said his surgery was a minor speed bump in his career, but the timing couldn’t have been worse. If Strowman doesn’t wrestle until SummerSlam, it will basically put Strowman in a place where he has no choice but to win to solidify his status.
Which isn’t that bad of a decision, when you think about it.
