What’s the story?
Former WWE Superstar Carlito was recently interviewed by Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. During the conversation, he spoke about the possibility of him returning to the WWE and the tag team of his brother Primo and cousin Epico.
In case you didn’t know…
Carlito made his main roster debut on SmackDown in October 2004 and became the WWE United States Champion in his very first match after beating John Cena. Apart from that, the Puerto Rican wrestler also held the Intercontinental Championship and is a two-time tag team Champion in the WWE alongside his brother Primo.
The 38-year old was released by the WWE in May 2010 due to a violation of the WWE Wellness Program. Since then, he has been working on the independent circuit and has wrestled for a number of promotions such as World Wrestling Council, Millennium Wrestling Federation and Big Time Wrestling among others.
The heart of the matter
When asked about rumours of him joining the WWE, Carlito said that he hasn’t been in touch with the WWE for a while now. However, he claimed that he would love to make a return, provided it works for both him as well as the WWE. Here’s what the second generation Superstar had to say:
“We’ve had talks. I haven’t spoken to them in a while, but it’s all about economics. For the right price, I’d love to come back, but it’s got to be something that works for them and something that works for me.”
Speaking about The Shining Stars, Primo and Epico, he asserted that they are both highly talented and require the right avenue to succeed. Carlito added that there are a number of other Superstars like them who need to be utilised in the right manner. Here’s what he said:
“They’re extremely talented, but it’s all about finding the right avenue for them. There are a lot of guys there like that. There is a lot of talent there, and you need to find the right way to exploit it.”
What next?
With a number of former Superstars like The Hardy Boyz and Drew Galloway finding their way back to the WWE, it may not be surprising to see Carlito make a comeback in the future.
Author’s take
It is heartening to see the WWE open its doors to Superstars who had parted ways with the promotion in the past due to some reason or the other. However, it will be important that they are provided with the right kind of motivation to stay put in the company.
