What's the story?
Carmella seemingly turned on James Ellsworth last night on SmackDown Live, giving the Chinless Wonder a superkick after his loss to Becky Lynch. WWE has uploaded a video to its Twitter showing Ms Money in the Bank's reaction after the fact.
In case you didn't know...
James Ellsworth has been a thorn in the side of the SmackDown women's division for all of 2017. The Chinless Wonder has interjected himself into a number of matches featuring his partner Carmella, disrespecting the female competitors of the blue brand seemingly at every step.
Enough is enough, however, and the women's captain of Team SmackDown at Survivor Series took it upon herself to shut Ellsworth up. It was Becky Lynch vs. James Ellsworth on last night's episode in Manchester and the end result wasn't to Ellsworth's liking.
The heart of the matter
After a whole heap of shenanigans, Lynch made light work of Ellsworth, forcing the Baltimore native to tap to the Dis-arm-her. Ellsworth faced the wrath of the rest of the SmackDown women's division during the match, and it is unlikely that he will disrespect them any longer.
Carmella entered the ring after the match and squared up to Lynch, before giving her seemingly-former manager a superkick. When asked to elaborate on her actions, Carmella gave a fairly cryptic reply.
"They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, and I hope I just taught James a new trick. Needless to say, James will be spending the night in the doghouse, and by 'doghouse' I mean a literal doghouse"
What's next?
What does this mean for the tandem of Carmella and James Ellsworth? In any normal circumstances, one individual superkicking another would signal the end of their partnership. This is definitely a one-way relationship, however, and it would be no surprise to see Ellsworth slavishly following the Princess of Staten Island next Tuesday night.
Author's take
Carmella's promo here makes absolutely no sense. She immediately contradicts her opening phrase, before making a threat that has absolutely no meaning whatsoever. This was little more than a chance for WWE to cram a lot of dog puns into a social media post.
The James Ellsworth story must be coming to an end at this point. It has been fun, but the time has come to close the book on the Chinless Wonder.
