What’s the story?
WWE SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair was recently a guest on SiriusXM Stars' Conversations With Maria Menounos, and spoke about who she wanted to face at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans.
In case you didn’t know...
Before WWE decided on having Ronda Rousey and a partner (probably Kurt Angle) face Triple H and Stephanie McMahon at WrestleMania, one of the plans for her was to have her in the ring with Charlotte, in what was to either be a one-on-one match or a '4 Horsewomen vs 4 Horsewomen' match.
The heart of the matter
While appearing on on SiriusXM Stars' Conversations With Maria Menounos, WWE SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair spoke on a number of topics. When asked who she would like to step in the ring with at WrestleMania, Charlotte said she wanted to face Asuka to try and break her streak.
"I want to wrestle Asuka, I want to break her streak. We've never faced each other, never been in a multi-woman match. I feel her coming from Japan and having her own legacy, and coming from a completely different culture, and then my background, I think it's definitely a WrestleMania moment. So that's who I would like to face."
Charlotte was then asked why not Ronda Rousey, to which she replied, "She has to pay her dues first to face me!"
What’s next?
WrestleMania takes place on April 8, 2018, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
It is being speculated that Royal Rumble winner Asuka may jump to SmackDown following WWE Fastlane, and challenge Charlotte for the SmackDown Women's Championship at WrestleMania.
Author’s take
Charlotte vs Asuka, Charlotte vs Ronda Rousey, I would take either of them. Charlotte vs Rousey won't happen at WrestleMania but it will be a great match to happen down the line.
Charlotte and Asuka would probably be the most interesting and possibly best match for any of the main roster women to have. If there is any place for this first time meeting, it needs to be WrestleMania.
