The heart of the matter
On a recent upload from Chris Jericho's Instagram account, Y2J was seen in a newly designed t-shirt with the words 'Alpha Club' written on it. The t-shirt was designed to mock Jericho's opponent at Wrestle Kingdom 12, Kenny Omega and The Bullet Club.
In the post, Jericho is seen replicating the Bullet Club gun-point hand gesture, while wearing the new t-shirt. The post is captioned with the words 'ALPHA Club' and 'Choose your side'.
The full text as seen above reads, "Choose your side....Join #AlphaClubJericho & help fight #type1diabetes NOW! Go to represent.com/alphaclub and pick up your colours! #AlphaVsOmega #TokyoDome #Jan4@jdrfhq".
The t-shirt is one of many things being used to build-up the hype for Jericho's match against Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12. Y2J challenged The Cleaner to a match via video on Power Struggle, after Omega asked for a match with any wrestler who was willing to fight him.
The match is scheduled to take place at the Tokyo Dome on the 4th of January and the tagline for the match is 'Alpha vs Omega', which is clearly where Jericho got his inspiration for the t-shirt.
What's next?
Jericho's post is just the beginning of an inevitable war on social media between himself, Kenny Omega and Omega's stable The Bullet Club. However, there has been no official response to the post from Omega and his stablemates as of yet.
Author's take
Personally, I am enjoying the build-up and the hype being generated by Jericho's match with Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12. It opens the wrestling world to new opportunities and possibilities and could even be the start of some sort of cross-promotion battle between WWE and NJPW, or at least I hope.
