Aries is now plying his trade in the indies

What's the story?

Recently released WWE Superstar, Austin Aries, is set to face off against a current WWE Champion in an independent promotion.

The former TNA and Ring of Honor wrestler is to face off against 'Bruiserweight' Pete Dunne at Destiny Wrestling's Carnage show.

In case you didn't know...

Aries, who joined the WWE in January, 2016, was released earlier this year by the WWE.

"The Greatest Man That Ever Lived" first wrestled in NXT after joining WWE, and later moved to the main roster as a commentator before feuding with then-Cruiserweight Champion, Neville.

After being released by the WWE and serving a 90-day non-compete clause, Aries has been busy wrestling in Independent promotions, notably at Tommy Dreamer's House of Hardcore promotion.

The heart of the matter

It was announced on Destiny Wrestling's social media page that the former WWE Superstar will wrestler with current WWE UK Champion and Destiny Champion, Pete Dunne.

Destiny Wrestling's Carnage show will be held on January 21st, 2018, at the Don Kolov Arena in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

This will be the fourth year of the show and will include several Canadian stars, apart from Dunne and Aries.

Dunne, who wrestles for other promotions apart from the WWE, is the Destiny Champion, as well as Attack! Pro Wrestling 24/7 Champion (which is a promotion co-owned by him). The UK Champion also made his main roster debut on RAW in Manchester, England, when he faced off against Cruiserweight Champion, Enzo Amore.

What's next?

Aries seems to be enjoying himself as an independent superstar, wrestling all around the world, including in far-off Australia, where he recently teamed with former WWE Superstar, X-Pac.

Author's take

It's great to see Aries back in the ring and doing what he does best, while it's equally exciting to watch the young Pete Dunne show what he's capable of and also show that he can mix it up with the big dogs in the world of pro wrestling.
