What’s the story?
On the latest episode of Talking Smack, Daniel Bryan mentioned Ring of Honor when he was talking to AJ Styles about the latter's confrontation with Shane McMahon.
The Context
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
There is obviously more freedom on Tuesday nights. That’s evident by just what goes on during Talking Smack. The show has played a pivotal role in rejuvenating the career of The Miz, whose segments with Daniel Bryan are now revered.

Bryan’s lack of a filter has consistently gotten him into the limelight. Earlier in SmackDown LIVE’s existence, he openly talked about other wrestling promotions. It seemed like a mistake at the time, but it was still said. He’s also teased repeatedly that he will wrestle again at an unknown date. Every WWE fan knows that the WWE will not let him wrestle in the company again.
The heart of the matter
During SmackDown LIVE, McMahon and Styles had a contract signing for their match, and Bryan brought it up on the post-show. Here were Bryan’s exact words:
"What's the deal, why didn't you shake his hand like in the good ol' Ring Of Honor days?" Bryan asked.
There was no awkward pause as the WWE would presumably be open to a relationship with ROH at some point.
What’s next?
Unless the WWE decides to discipline the SmackDown general manager, nothing will happen. Perhaps the WWE will let their talent mention other promotions. Since Bryan can do it, why shouldn’t the others?
Author’s Take
At this point, it’s as if Bryan can do whatever he wants. There isn’t any sign of discipline from the WWE officials. He still has to ride a fine line, so nothing happens with the relationship between him and the WWE. Even if they won’t let him wrestle, burning a bridge with a corporate giant is never a good thing to do.
