What's the story?
Daniel Bryan recently spoke at the Play Fair Toy convention in New York City. Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated gave some highlights of what the SmackDown Live General Manager said.
There he mentioned that Bryan talked about the next best main roster prospect from NXT. Bryan named Drew McIntyre as the best possible arrival from WWE's NXT Brand, implying that he would like to see the Scotsman move to SmackDown Live.
In case you didn't know....
Drew McIntyre, better known in the independent scene as Drew Galloway, was part of the WWE main roster for a long time between 2009 and 2014. Upon his arrival in WWE, he was pushed and given the moniker of 'The Chosen One' of Vince McMahon. During this time he held the Intercontinental Title as well as the Tag Team Championships, but it just wasn't enough. He left WWE after being part of the misfit faction, 3MB.

He was much more successful outside WWE and became quite a star on the Independent Scene, eventually attracting WWE's attention yet again. He came back to WWE as part of the NXT roster and quickly rose to prominence on the brand.
He won the NXT Championship and his return to WWE was notably different. He had all the moves and mannerisms from his time on the Independent Scene and his gimmick wasn't anywhere close to his old gimmick from his first WWE run.
The heart of the matter
When asked which star on NXT had the best Main Roster prospects, Daniel Bryan named Drew Galloway. Bryan referred to him by his Independent Scene name, instead of the WWE moniker of 'McIntyre'.
He went on to say that while it was hard to pick any one person, he had to choose Drew Galloway. He said this was due to the fact Drew worked so hard outside to make a name for himself.
“It’s hard to pick one person, but I really like Drew Galloway. Drew was let go by WWE, but he went out on his own and made a name for himself by wrestling his butt off all over the world.”
What's next?
Drew McIntyre suffered an injury at NXT Takeover: Wargames, during his match with Andrade 'Cien' Almas. He will take some time off to recover from his torn bicep and is expected to return sometime next year.
Author's take
One of the best wrestlers in WWE at the moment, Drew McIntyre used his time on the Independent Scene to completely reinvent himself. When he returns from the injury he may make a direct debut on the main roster.
