Can Bryan cut a giant down to size?

What's the story?

Daniel Bryan made a triumphant in-ring return at WrestleMania. He's now a full-fledged member of the SmackDown Live roster and will be taking on yet another Superstar who's returning from injury.

Daniel Bryan and Big Cass will lock horns at WWE Backlash next weekend. The two men will look to settle their scores after Big Cass made their rivalry far too personal.

In case you didn't know...

This week on SmackDown Live, The Miz announced Daniel Bryan as his guest on Miz TV. While the world waited with bated breath to catch this much-awaited face off, it was Big Cass who showed up instead of the leader of the 'Yes' moment.

Clad in a classy suit, Cass spoke about how Daniel Bryan's return from injury overshadowed his own. We later saw Daniel Bryan doubled over in the backstage area, following a brutal attack.

The heart of the matter

It was never made clear if Big Cass was the attacker, so there may well be a twist on that front. For what it is worth, Daniel Bryan announced later that he'd spoken to Paige and he will square off against Big Cass at Backlash on May 6th.

The contest promises to be the ultimate David vs. Goliath contest with the underdog babyface and the giant heel. Like Bryan said, it doesn't matter how big one's opponent is when he's on the mat and then tapping out.

What's next?

Daniel Bryan will be a part of the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia before this match. He's going into the match as one of the favourites to win the whole thing. It remains to be seen what part Big Cass will play at the said event.

Author's take

This is obviously a huge step up for Big Cass. For Daniel Bryan, while this is not the technical masterpiece we expected, it still is a very big deal indeed.

Both men have much riding on this match and it should be a fine affair.
