What's the story?
WWE just concluded the NXT Takeover: Wargames PPV and it was a huge success. Just one night before the highly anticipated Survivor Series, NXT Takeover delivered and wasn't a disappointment at all.
All the matches on the card were phenomenal but there was a bit of disappointment that emanated from the night; the former NXT Champion Drew McIntyre injured his left arm during his Championship match with Andrade Almas.
The worst-case scenario could see the Scotsman miss 3-6 months with an injury, meaning he may not make it to the Royal Rumble or potentially WrestleMania weekend.
McIntyre had a talk with Kayla Braxton backstage at the Toyota Center in Houston after his match talking about the injury.
In case you didn't know...
Drew had been released by WWE in 2014 and had recently made his return on 1st April 2017 joining NXT and capturing the NXT Championship soon after, at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III.
McIntyre had made a name for himself on the independent circuit after being released and although many believed he should have re-debuted on the main roster, Drew has had a great run in NXT.
Drew had defeated Bobby Roode to become the NXT Champion and defended it successfully against a host of opponents before losing it to Andrade at Takeover: WarGames in a spectacular match.
The heart of the matter
Drew had sustained the injury during the match and could be seen clutching his arm in pain. Drew will be getting an MRI to gauge the full extent of his injury.
After his match, Drew had a word with Kayla Braxton and opened up about his injury. Here is an excerpt from the interview:
“I honestly don’t know. I felt something go in my arm, my bicep/elbow area... from experience, know it’s probably not good, but I won’t know anything official until I talk to the doctor.
I won’t make any excuses. It was a heck of a match tonight. And if it doesn’t turn out the way I hope it does, you know, you’re only as good as your last match. No matter what happens, I’m coming back, and I’m coming for my NXT title - unfinished business there. But right now, I’ve just got to deal with this.”
What's next?
It is clear that Drew will be out for a couple of months depending on the severity of his injury. Hopefully, he is able to recover soon and get back in the ring to reclaim the NXT Championship.
There is also a strong possibility that Drew might return to WWE and go straight to the main roster instead of coming back to NXT.
Author's take
This injury has come at a bad time for Drew as he was having a great run in NXT. I hope that he recovers as soon as possible.
Here is wishing Drew a speedy recovery from Sportskeeda!
