What's the story?

Survivor Series weekend is shaping up to be exceptional. One night before Survivor Series, NXT Takeover: WarGames will take place on November 18, 2017.

According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dustin Rhodes, also known as Goldust, will be ringside during WWE's inaugural WarGames match.

In case you didn't know...

'WarGames' is a gimmick match, where two rings were enclosed inside a steel cage. Wargames was initially developed by the NWA and used as a marquee attraction.

The legendary wrestler and booker Dusty Rhodes was the one who came up with the idea of the Wargames match and thus it is fitting that his son Dustin will be ringside when this match takes place for the first time in a WWE ring at NXT Takeover: WarGames.

Although some promotions have used similar ideas for matches in the past few years, the match at Takeover will be the first official WarGames match in 20 years.

The heart of the matter

NXT Takeover: WarGames is shaping up to be a spectacular event. With a triple threat trios match featuring Sanity, Authors of Pain & Roderick Strong and The Undisputed Era and a world title match between Drew McIntyre and Andrade Almas on the cards.

Dustin Rhodes, who has been playing the Goldust character for a long time, has been floundering on the main roster ever since his tag team with R-truth came to an end.

However, with that being said, having his son at ringside for the revival of a match he invented will be a tribute to the great Dusty Rhodes.

What's next?

NXT Takeover: WarGames will take place on 18th November 2017 from the Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas. With a stacked card, the event promises to be exceptionally good and will, no doubt, provide a challenge to Survivor Series in terms of quality in-ring action.

Author's take

I am excited about the return of WarGames at Takeover, and having Dustin at ringside in honour of his father would add to the significance of the match.

Dustin recently teased his retirement on Twitter so it is a great thing that he will get a chance to be in the spotlight.
