What’s the story?
WWE Hall of Famer Edge recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated Extra Mustard during which he commented on why current WWE Champion AJ Styles will prove that a Wrestlemania main event spot isn’t shouldn’t always belong to a part-timer performer in the WWE.
In case you didn’t know…
For the past three years, part-time wrestlers in WWE have always been involved in a Wrestlemania main-event one way or another. In 2015, then WWE Champion Brock Lesnar, who is currently under a part-time contract, competed in the main event for the WWE Title against Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 31. The following year, at Wrestlemania 32, the WWE Title was defended in a hard hitting match between Roman Reigns and Triple H. And lastly, at Wrestlemania 33 last year, another part-timer, The Undertaker competed in the main event at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The heart of the matter
According to Edge, he thinks that main-eventing spot at Wrestlemania shouldn’t always be slated to the part-time talent (possibly alluding to Brock Lesnar and John Cena) and believes that ‘The Phenomenal’ AJ Styles will prove that full-time talents are also worthy of the Wrestlemania main-event spot as well. Edge also claims that AJ Styles is a superstar who has been on fire and has already figured out what he needs to do in the WWE, which isn’t far off from what he was already doing.
Additionally, Edge also said that Styles has been firing in on all cylinders as of late and believes that the current WWE Champion will be the one superstar who will prove the fact that full-time wrestlers are also worthy of being in the main event of Wrestlemania.
What’s next?
As of right now, AJ Styles’ next goal will be to retain the WWE Title at this year’s Royal Rumble PPV as The Phenomenal One gets all set to defend his WWE Championship against Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens in a 2-on-1 handicap match this Sunday.
Author’s Take
I personally agree with Edge and believe in the fact that WWE always doesn’t have to put a part-timer in the main event spot at Wrestlemania. The likes of AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Finn Balor, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns are totally capable enough of pulling off a Wrestlemania main-event by themselves.
