What’s the story?
On Eric Bischoff’s latest podcast, Bischoff On Wrestling, Bischoff said that he was a big fan of Roman Reigns’ work and thinks he will be an extremely good heel during his WrestleMania 33 analysis.
In case you don’t know...
Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer recently reported that ever since John Cena has become a part-time WWE wrestler, Roman Reigns has officially has become WWE’s number 1 merchandise seller and that he is getting the most reaction when compared to the other full-time members.
The heart of the matter
The co-host of Bischoff’s podcast, Nick Husman reminded Bischoff that Roman Reigns was heavily booed in front of Orlando’s Raw after WrestleMania crowd and that he used heel tendencies to elevate the hostility of the crowd even more.
Bischoff then said that he has always enjoyed Roman Reigns’ works and believes that he will make an extremely good heel someday.
What’s next?
Despite Roman Reign’s heel tendencies, a forthcoming heel turn appears very unlikely at this point. Raw’s newly crowned Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar, will not be defending his championship at Raw’s April PPV, Payback, which will take place on April 30th.
Meltzer said that a #1 contender match between Roman Reigns and the no-nonsense heel, Braun Stowman, is the current plan for the main event for the show. It is also being said that Stowman will win that match and will face Lesnar at either Extreme Rules in June or whatever Raw’s July PPV will be.
It was also previously reported that Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns will happen at WrestleMania 34 and will be the moment the torch is passed to Roman Reigns.
Author’s take
Vince McMahon sees gold in another polarising Superstar, Roman Reigns. In spite of his heavy jeers and disapproval, Roman Reigns is currently making the company a lot of money with his merchandise.
Until people stop buying his merchandise, McMahon will not turn him heel nor stop pushing him to the moon. The Chairman sees potential in “killing two birds with one stone" by having another polarising ‘‘poster child’’, similar to John Cena, who some want to pay to see win while others want to pay to see lose.
Although, with the steady decline in ratings, the million dollar question is if WWE ought to be risking the possibility of losing more viewers and subscribers by pushing someone so controversial to the top. Nevertheless, expect WWE to go “all in” with Roman Reigns and for him become an ambiguous/tweener character instead of a full-fledged heel.
