What's the story?

There have been rumours over the past few days concerning the identity of the surprise final entrant in the WWE 205 Live Cruiserweight Tournament, finally this week as part of the show, former NXT Tag Team Champion Buddy Murphy was the man who was added to the high flying roster.

In case you didn't know...

Buddy Murphy was once part of a Tag Team with Wesley Blake on NXT and the duo are former Tag Team Champions, title that they were pushed towards by current Raw Women's Champion Alexa Bliss.

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

Murphy and Bliss have been dating ever since their time working together in NXT and announced their engagement at the beginning of 2017. Murphy has been missing from NXT TV ever since Blake and Murphy split back in 2016 but has been seen alongside his fiancee on Total Divas over the past few months since the duo joined the show for its seventh season.

It seems that Murphy has been working hard to drop the weight that would allow him to compete in 205 Live, which could be why he has been missing from WWE Tv for so long.

The heart of the matter

Tonight on 205 Live it was the "best-kept secret" that Australian star Buddy Murphy was the final man who would be added to the Cruiserweight tournament next week. Murphy joins the likes of Jack Gallagher, Mustafa Ali and Ariya Davari.

Murphy will take on Davari next week on 205 Live in one of the final matches of the first round in the Cruiserweight Tournament whilst Gallagher takes on Ali.

What's next?

The Cruiserweight Championship tournament will continue next week with the final two matches of the opening round with the final taking place at WrestleMania in less than two months time.

Author's take

Buddy Murphy was a stand out star on NXT alongside Wesley Blake a few years ago and judging by that video package it seems that he has definitely put the work in to be where he is. 205 Live has already gained a number of interesting faces over the past few weeks and it seems that this could be the boost that Murphy has been looking for over the past year whilst he's been kept off WWE TV, Murphy really could become quite the singles star as part of 205 Live.
