What’s the story?
Former UFC fighter and Mae Young Classic Runner-up Shayna Baszler will make her in-ring NXT debut at next week’s episode. The same was announced by WWE and Baszler's opponent is yet to be revealed.
In case you didn't know…
The 37-year-old Baszler took up professional wrestling back in 2015. Prior to this, she was an active Mixed Martial Artist and fought in notable promotions like Elite, Strikeforce, Invicta Fighting Championship and also, UFC.
She started her journey in WWE with the Mae Young Classic where she ended up being the runner-up. During her run in the tournament, she secured wins over Zeda, Mia Yim, Candice LeRae and Mercedes Martinez. She lost to Kairi Sane in the finals.
The heart of the matter
Last week, Shayna Baszler had made her NXT debut when she attacked Kairi Sane. Baszler choked out Sane during the appearance.
And now, WWE has confirmed that the former UFC fighter will make her NXT in-ring debut on next week’s show. The episode will be taped this Thursday during the NXT TV tapings which are scheduled to take place at the Centre Stage in Atlanta.
What’s next?
As mentioned earlier, Baszler’s opponent is yet to be revealed by WWE. Last week, Baszler had crossed paths with both Kairi Sane and Ember Moon.
With NXT Takeover: Philadelphia around the corner, WWE could have big plans for Baszler and the picture would become clear at next week’s NXT show.
Author’s take
It’s great to finally see Baszler get into the NXT ring. She was quite impressive during her Independent run and this translated in Mae Young Classic as well.
From what we saw last week, Baszler is in for a big push from WWE. She was booked strongly for her first appearance in NXT and something similar can be expected when she steps into the ring next week.
