What's the story?
Former WWE superstar Jack Swagger was one of the fastest rising stars' around the time period of 2008-2012, as 'The Real American' captured numerous championship belts including the WWE World Heavyweight Title a decade ago.
However, in a recent interview on the E&C Podcast, Swagger revealed how he had pitched an interesting angle to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, prior to his release from the company.
In case you didn't know...
Jack Swagger made his initial WWE debut back in 2006 under the company's then-developmental brand Deep South Wrestling. In the early stages of his career, Swagger usually wrestled in dark matches for OVW and FCW before eventually making his debut for the rebranded ECW.
As part of the ECW roster, Swagger won the ECW Championship and the following year won his first World Title in the WWE by winning the World Heavyweight Championship in 2010. After a run on the mid-card, usually as a tag team or a mid-card wrestler, Swagger eventually asked for his release from the WWE in 2017 and was granted it as well.
The heart of the matter
Prior to his departure from WWE in 2017, Jack Swagger had apparently pitched in an idea of him jumping ship to MMA from WWE, only to eventually make his return to the company and ignite a feud against company chairman Vince McMahon.
While interacting with Edge and Christian, Swagger recalled having an interesting conversation with Vince McMahon, who reportedly told Swagger how that his potential was apparently being wasted in the WWE. (H/T: Wrestling Inc)
"Before I left, Vince had caught me in the hallway and he told me that they were wasting me and I said, 'Man, that's awesome to hear. Thank you for saying that. I'll be in your office next week with ideas. And I pitched him an idea about leaving and having me go fight MMA and come back and kind of be a little controversy between us or something and then comeback type of deal. And he didn't really want to do anything about it. And after that, not with him, but with everyone else, the communication really broke down, so I was like, 'okay, it's time to go.'" Swagger added, "and so [MMA] was on my mind. I wanted to do [MMA] then."
What's next?
Jack Swagger recently made his MMA debut as part of Bellator, defeating J.W. Kiser at Bellator 214 in an impressive manner.
The former WWE World Champion also continues to wrestle on the independent circuit as well.
