Fans have been waiting for 12 years to witness another match between two of the most powerful athletes in the pro-wrestling business, Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg. Previously, they faced each other at WrestleMania 20, which unfortunately turned out to be one of the worst bouts in WrestleMania history.
The fans had lost their interest in that match as it was leaked to be their last match in the company. Even the presence of Stone Cold Steve Austin as the special guest referee couldn’t save the match from being a flop.
In the past, we witnessed the unexpected return of the Ultimate Warrior and the much-awaited debut of WCW legend, Sting, soon after they were confirmed as a part of the 2K games. As a result, with WWE announcing Goldberg as a playable character and pre-order bonus of the upcoming 2K17 game, fans started speculating the return of the former World Champion.

The hype behind a rematch between Lesnar and Goldberg reached a whole new level when WWE posted a video to promote the 2K17 game. In the promotional video, Brock Lesnar along with his manager Paul Heyman, mocks Goldberg for being a “supportive player” only:
Heyman: Ladies and gentleman, my name is Paul Heyman and I think everyone [clapping] should stand up and applaud Bill Goldberg for being a supporting player in the video game that stars the Beast, the Conquerer... Brock Lesnar.
Lesnar: Hey Bill. You're next!
I've got a special message for @Goldberg regarding #WWE2K17. @WWEgames @HeymanHustlehttps://t.co/SMuc295Fc3

Due to some unknown reason, WWE deleted that video within a few hours. Then, it was re-posted after RAW went off the air. This time, Goldberg himself responded to the comments made by Lensar. He tweeted:
This year, SummerSlam will be hosted by Brooklyn, New York and features a blockbuster encounter between Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton. Interestingly, Goldberg will be present in New York City this Sunday as well, but to promote WWE 2K17. Several sources have reported that Goldberg was contacted by 2K and WWE has nothing to do with this booking. In spite of that, rumors are spreading throughout social media outlets indicate an appearance by Goldberg at Sunday’s pay-per-view.
Are these events actually hinting towards one of the most anticipated rematches in WWE history or will it end up being just a promotional tactic?
