WWE News: Goldberg talks potential match with Brock Lesnar and WWE return

The Wrestlemania XX match did not attract the fanfare that WWE had expected.

Bill Goldberg had been quite the sensation during his stint with WCW and WWE. Be it his unbeaten 173 match streak, the kick-to-the-face that ended Brett Hart’s career or his infamous match against Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania XX, Goldberg has had his fair share of headlines.

But the WWE turned heads when they announced that Goldberg would be the pre-order bonus for the upcoming WWE 2K17 game. Before him, the Ultimate Warrior and Sting were the pre-order bonus characters in previous editions of the 2K games. Both of them returned to the company, (debuted in the case of Sting), and were eventually inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Naturally, Goldberg’s current association with the company has given way to rumors about a possible return and one last match for the professional wrestler. Bill himself added fuel to the fire.

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

He was doing press for WWE 2K17 in Germany and he continued building a feud with Brock Lesnar while also teasing the possibility of making a return to a WWE ring for another match. He took a jab at Brock Lesnar by saying, “I should be on the cover because I killed the guy who is going to be on the cover.”

When the fans present there started chanting “Please come back”, Goldberg replied, “For you guys, I'll see what I can do. All I can tell you is at tomorrow morning at 6:55 I'm getting on a train and I'm going to Frankfurt. Then I'm going to New York City, and that's all I can say about that. But you never say never, even when you're my age. Because I have no issue putting the tights and the boots on and those gloves and ripping people's faces off again. All I need is the opportunity to do it. So all I can say is all you fans out there keep doing what you're doing and it'll happen. The question is: Who do you want to see me strangle?”

Goldberg also hyped the WWE 2K17 game, saying that it was incredible. He also spoke about his movie projects and noted that his favourite so far had been The Longest Yard where he did his own stunts, adding that Steve Austin had blown his hamstring during filming.

None of this means he'll return and it could all simply be promotion for the video game but we've seen wrestlers take this route to return to WWE before. Perhaps that's where we're headed once more. However, the biggest thing to take away from this comment is that Goldberg will be in New York during the SummerSlam weekend. Will he interfere and cost Brock the match against Randy? If he does, that could set up a potential matchup at Wrestlemania 33.

But will WWE creative go down that road again given the debacle that left a sour taste in the mouth of fans after the Wrestlemania XX fiasco? Only time will tell.
