The subject of WCW’s demise has been a topic of wide discussion due to the various contributing factors. One such factor was the decision to have Bill Goldberg win his first WCW Title on a regular episode of WCW Monday Nitro rather than on a well hyped PPV. Hulk Hogan talked about the incident when he appeared on Eric Bischoff’s podcast this week.
He revealed that the decision to hand over the title to Goldberg on free TV was his decision and he claims that he had not thought through the decision at all to realize it’s consequences. Here is what he had to say about the debacle :
“I just called [Eric Bischoff] in panic and thought I had this great idea. We should have thought it through. Everybody says we should have built it up more … I was panicking because I was afraid we’d miss the moment, you know?. I knew the Georgia Dome would be his home. It would be electric...”

Even though the moment turned out to be electric, it had the potential to be more memorable if Goldberg came into the title scene and went for Hulk Hogan’s world title in a well-built storyline.
Apart from this, there were many surprises on that episode of Monday Night Nitro with the returns of Scott Hall and The Ultimate Warrior being the notable ones.
Another cause for WCWall has been attributed to some poor booking, with Kevin Nash ending Goldberg’s streak being one of the evident examples. Relive the moment here:
With the rumours of Hulk Hogan returning to the WWE doing the rounds, it would be interesting the amount of creative freedom he gets. With the new era and the brand split blooming, the answer most likely will be a resounding ‘no’.
