WWE News: Jack Gallagher lays down a challenge for CM Punk

Gallagher could definitely be seen as a legit contender to face Punk
Gallagher could definitely be seen as a legit contender to face Punk

What's the story?

Jack Gallagher may be seen as a member of 205 Live on WWE TV, but it seems that the British star also has a history in MMA as well and felt the need to respond to the fact that CM Punk was currently without an opponent in UFC.

In case you didn't know...

Jack Gallagher has a 2-0 record in MMA and became well-known for his submission manoeuvres in the unscripted sport. Gallagher's first MMA match took place in December 2015 at the Night of Gladiators 25 event where he defeated Stefan Cowley by submission with an impressive guillotine choke in less than two minutes.

His second fight took place back in April 2016 where he once again walked out victorious over Cesar Valencia at the ICE FC 13 event. It seems that Gallagher has a much more superior record in the sport than CM Punk, which could be why he felt the need to send the Tweet, which may not have been in jest.

Punk lost his first UFC match back in 2016 in under two minutes when he completely underestimated Mickey Gall, who forced him to submit to a rear-naked choke in the first round of their bout at UFC 203 back in September 2016.

The heart of the matter

UFC president Dana White recently revealed that Punk wants to fight in UFC once again and the company is happy to follow through on that aim. Speaking with the Associated Press' Dan Gelston, earlier this week White revealed that he wants to give Punk another shot.

"I like that guy. He's a good dude. He wants one more. He wants to get another shot. I'm going to give it to him."

The one issue is that Punk doesn't currently have an opponent, but it seems that current 205 Live star Jack Gallagher, who boasts an impressive MMA background of his own has already stated that he will step up.

The video above shows the damage that Gallagher can do in two minutes, so it could be seen as Gallagher bragging or even mocking how little Punk was able to do in two minutes in his match against Mickey Gall where it is reported that he got just six strikes in, with none of them being considered significant.

What's next?

Jack Gallagher is still under contract with WWE and will continue to perform on their 205 Live brand, but it would be interesting to see these two personalities collide inside something other than a wrestling ring. Punk, on the other hand, will now be looking for an opponent over the next few months because he will want his second match to be much better than his first.

Author's take

Is there a way that this could happen? Who wouldn't be excited to see it? Gallagher is incredible when he's not part of a scripted wrestling bout and he would definitely make sure he sends a message to Punk. I feel like Dana and Vince need to have a conversation because I would easily be happy with Gallagher being named Punk's next opponent in UFC.
