“For the longest time there, I felt like I was literally the toughest guy in the locker room,” said Hager. “Yet, I would go out there and have two-minute matches with guys that couldn't hold my jock. It even got to the point where I pitched to them, I was like, ‘Look, I got something to prove. You guys are a great platform. Let me prove it. Pick the fighter — I’ll fight anybody. Put them on your show and I’ll fight them.’ They didn’t really want to go down that route.”

What’s next?

While Swagger may not be involved in the upcoming Bellator Heavyweight Tournament to determine a new champion, he’s certainly one of the hottest names in the division. He’s expected to enter the cage for the first time sometime around April or May 2018.

Author’s take

It seems as if Hager was going out of his way to make the headlines in this instance, with some of his remarks seeming a little bit out of character.

Still, his signing with Bellator has created a great deal of buzz and given his history in amateur wrestling, he could shock some people.
