WWE news: Jim Ross posts that his wife would have wanted him to be a part of Wrestlemania weekend

Despite his grievous loss, JR will still make it to Orlando

What’s the story?

Following the unfortunate demise of his wife Jan, legendary play-by-play announcer Jim Ross recently posted an emotional blog on his official website. In the blog, he mentioned that he has decided to go to Orlando and be a part of Wrestlemania weekend because that is what his wife Jan would have wanted. He also elaborated on her association with the wrestling business and said that he needed to be in a positive environment around old friends.

In case you didn’t know...

Jim Ross’ wife Jan was involved in an unfortunate vehicular accident and passed away due to serious head injuries two days later. Jim was introduced to Jan by Ric Flair. Jan, a flight attendant, was happily married to Jim Ross for a total of 24 years until her death separated them. An organ donor, Jan Ross saved four lives even after her demise.

The heart of the matter

Here are some excerpts from what Jim Ross posted:

‘For those who may be wondering why I've decided to go to Orlando and participate in Wrestlemania week it is simply because I truly think that is what Jan would have wanted. I will be able to be around friends and fans in a positive environment of which I feel that I need.

The alternative was to stay home and continue to be reminded of what I've lost, if that makes sense. Being around my old friends and the many fans that I hope to interact with in Orlando is a blessing that I need to experience. Jan loved Wrestlemania week I think as much as Christmas because she shopped, she loved Louis Vuitton, would get dressed up and could be entertained for hours simply conversing with the many people and friends that we connected with during our 21 year run together in WWE. That's not including all our WCW friends we knew in Atlanta who will also be in Orlando for a variety of reasons.

Our talent relations department had an unprecedented run in WWE as evidenced by the stars that our team was able to sign, train and develop. Many of these talents are still major, WWE contributors today. Jan was a huge part of that team as her hosting 'in home visits' from a variety of talents over the years and feeding them home cooked meals, listening to them and being their friend, and their spouse's friend with no agenda was a huge asset for our WWE team.’

What’s next?

Jim Ross, despite his loss, will be part of two 'Ringside’ shows on Saturday and Sunday, during Wrestlemania weekend.

Author’s take

No human being should have to endure what Jim Ross is going through, much less a man whose iconic voice has moved us, inspired us, captivated us and brought us so much joy over the years. We do hope that Jim Ross can bounce back from this tragedy, and resume somewhat of a normal life.
