What’s the story?
During his interview on the Today Show, John Cena revealed that a member of the WWE production team was the only person who knew about his plans to propose to Nikki Bella at Wrestlemania.
In case you didn’t know...
John Cena and Nikki Bella appeared on the Today Show hosted by Al Roker, who also served as the celebrity ring announcer for Cena and Bella’s match against The Miz and Maryse at Wrestlemania 33.

Cena and his lady-love won the matchup, after which he proposed to Nikki Bella in front of 75,000+ fans present at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
The heart of the matter
Cena reasoned that he had to let someone from the WWE management know about his plans, owing to the sheer magnitude of the event that is Wrestlemania. Here’s what The Leader of the Cenation had to say-
“Just because of the fact it is a giant production, there needed to be at least one other person who knew.”
He revealed that he’d actually popped the question to Bella about a year ago, moments before her neck surgery when she was under anaesthesia to which Bella said yes, according to John Cena.
Nevertheless, Cena and Bella chatted about their WrestleMania engagement on the Today Show, with both WWE Superstars sending out tweets regarding the same:

What’s next?
John Cena is currently on hiatus from the WWE as he’ll be shooting for his upcoming movie ‘The Pact’ between April 19th to June 9th. Meanwhile, Nikki Bella will be out of action as she’s announced her decision to take some time off as a performer for WWE in order to reassess her career and further rehabilitate her neck injury that she’d suffered last year.
Cena will be back inside the squared-circle in June whilst Nikki’s future as a WWE competitor remains uncertain.
Author’s take
Regardless of whether you love or hate Cena, the fact remains that he’s one of the WWE’s most reliable and consistent performers of all time. His WrestleMania moment with Nikki Bella was, dare I say, reminiscent of Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth reuniting at Wrestlemania 7.
Now I know that they are two very different moments, so to speak, but honestly how often do we see such moments at ‘Mania, especially given the fact that we’re now in the cookie-cutter PG-era.
As far as Cena letting a production team member in on his plans is concerned, that just goes to show the unquestionable professionalism of the 16-time WWE world champion and further proves his loyalty to the WWE.
Let’s go, Cena!
