What’s the story?
According to Wrestling Inc, John Cena is not being advertised for the SmackDown LIVE after WrestleMania or any other WWE events for the summer.
The Context
John Cena has starred in multiple movies and has appeared on daily television shows on numerous occasions. He is currently in the process of making the transition to mainstream entertainment and is following in the footsteps of The Rock.

In the process, WWE has become a secondary gig for the Cenation leader. It’s no secret that he is ageing and his priorities have changed. His recent engagement to Nikki Bella at WrestleMania won’t change that fact.
The heart of the matter
According to a report from Wrestling Inc, Cena isn’t being advertised for any WWE events in the near future. His WrestleMania match could be his final PPV appearance for a few months as he works on a host of movies and TV shows, in the summer. Nikki Bella will also transition into a part-time schedule with fewer matches and dates.
What’s next?
Dave Meltzer notes that SmackDown LIVE attendance outdrew WWE Raw during January and February when Cena came back for his feud with the Miz.
Even though he only works a few months in the year, Cena is still WWE’s biggest drawing card. If he’s not going to be a big-time player for the company moving forward, they will have to replace him with someone who can match his marketability.
Author’s take
At this point, Cena does look like a moderate hypocrite. When he was feuding with the Rock, he called him out for going to Hollywood and partaking in pop culture. Now, the West Newbury, Massachusetts native is doing the exact same thing.
There is a chance he won’t be around for a majority of the year; and if that’s the case, WWE officials have a tall task on their hands. Not many may like Cena, but he does wonders for the company.
