There have been whispers of a faction involving Kevin Owens, Triple H and Samoa Joe for sometime now; In fact, the three men even tagged together at a handful of WWE Live Events in March. There was also a passing shot of an intense conversation between Triple H and Owens on an episode of Raw which only added fuel to the fire.
The heart of the matter
When asked about his program with Chris Jericho, Owens said that the two of them had done some entertaining work, and they could possibly have the best match at WrestleMania. He said:
We’ve been doing some entertaining stuff together and it’s going to keep going that way for the foreseeable future. I think Chris [Jericho] and I have a good shot at having the best match on the card.
I actually think it’s the match that people are most invested in. The story we’ve told over several months and everything that’s happened between us. Everyone’s excited for the match, it’s going to make for a great time, and I plan on walking out as United States champion.
Kevin Owens also said that he had no idea about a potential faction with Samoa Joe and Triple H. He said:
I don’t know anything about a faction to be honest. I know that HHH has shown a lot of faith in me when he helped me win the Universal championship. Samoa Joe happens to be a fortunate ally. I’ll never turn down someone like him for help. It’s interesting to see where it goes.
There is a lot on the horizon for the Prize Fighter.
What’s next?
Kevin Owens faces Chris Jericho for the WWE United States Championship at WrestleMania on April 2, 2017. According to the betting odds, he is a massive favourite to leave Orlando with gold around his waist.
Author’s take
Kevin Owens’ assessment of his feud with Chris Jericho is accurate. Their critically acclaimed work has carried Raw for over six months, and they will enter the Camping World Stadium with waves of momentum behind them.
However, I don’t want to watch the “New Evolution” dominate Raw. Although the original version of the group launched Randy Orton and Batista, it made for some awful television that soured professional wrestling for an entire generation of fans.
