WWE News: Kofi Kingston becomes WWE Champion and debuts new WWE Title

What's the story?

Kofi Kingston's eleven-year journey towards a world championship culminated at WrestleMania 35 with a title match against Daniel Bryan. In an incredible 'Mania moment, Kingston won with Trouble in Paradise and debuted a new WWE Title after the match.

In case you didn't know...

It was never supposed to happen. Mustafa Ali was injured so he had to give up his spot in the Elimination Chamber, a spot that was given to Kingston. Kingston then had an incredible performance in a Gauntlet match before Elimination Chamber and then at the Chamber itself.

Afterwards, #KofiMania started trending as people actively campaigned to get Kofi Kingston into the title shot at WrestleMania. What followed was weeks of Vince McMahon giving Kingston seemingly impossible obstacles to overcome until eventually Big E and Xavier Woods triumphed in a tag-team gauntlet match to book Kingston's place at the 'Showcase of Immortals'

The heart of the matter

Kofi Kingston fought hard in an amazing WWE Title match against Daniel Bryan, that saw Rowan and his New Day teammates also get involved. But when the dust had settled he was the WWE Champion.

Even after he had won and he was celebrating in the ring, people were holding their breath for yet another obstacle, but it didn't come. Soon Kingston's teammates and children joined him in the ring and New Day unveiled new 'There's a New Champ, Yes There Is!' shirts.

The New Day had one more gift for Kofi Kingston though, as they tossed aside Daniel Bryan's ethical environmentally friendly hemp belt and replaced it with the classic WWE Title belt we all know and love!

What's next?

Kofi Kingston will be a formidable opponent for any WWE Title challengers thanks to his tight-knit relationship with the New Day. In fact, I'm expecting the New Day to defend WWE Title under the freebird rule jokes to begin as I write this!
