WWE News: Lana and Rusev discuss the reaction to Rusev Day

What's the story?

Lana and Rusev talked to CageSideSeats at last night's Hall of Fame Ceremony, where they were able to discuss the reaction that Rusev Day has had over the past few months.

In case you didn't know...

Rusev wasn't part of last year's WrestleMania, because he was sidelined through an injury and, ever since his return to the SmackDown brand last year, he has struggled to find relevance.

The former United States Champion has been aligned with Aiden English over the past few months, and it seems that his Rusev Day gimmick has gotten over quite well. So much so, that the merch sales for Rusev have gone through the roof and he's recently been added to the United States Championship match at WrestleMania.

The heart of the matter

Rusev Day has gotten over so much with the WWE Universe that for the first time in history, this year's Mania will be on Rusev Day.

Ahead of his United States Championship match at WrestleMania tomorrow night, Rusev talked about the reaction his new gimmick how it has taken on a life of its own. (Transcript via Cagesideseats)

“You hear it on the smaller independent shows. You hear it from people in the street just chanting it for no reason. ... I am very excited, first ever WrestleMania on Rusev Day, Ravishing Rusev Day. It’s going to be amazing. We’re going to blow the Dome right out of proportion.”

Lana was also able to talk about the Women's Revolution and her involvement in the Battle Royal on Sunday night, where she talked about how great it is that the women are being given these opportunities. The full interview can be seen below:

What's next?

Lana will be part of the first-ever WrestleMania Women's Battle Royal and, Rusev will fight Bobby Roode, Randy Orton, and Jinder Mahal for the United States Championship tomorrow night.

Author's take

A few years ago, The New Day took their gimmick and ran with it, this was met with a lot of praise from the WWE Universe and WWE officials, so there is no reason why Rusev shouldn't be given the same.

Rusev is a fantastic wrestler and if it takes this kind of gimmick to get him to the top of WWE then the company should allow him to push forward and hopefully, we will crown a new Champion on Sunday night.

It's great that Rusev has the chance to become Champion on Rusev Day.
