What's the story?
The hottest story on SmackDown Live right now is the US Title Tournament, that was put together after Dolph Ziggler relinquished his championship, shortly after he won it. The initial plan was to have the finals at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event.
According to the official WWE website, the finals will now take place on the 23rd January episode of SmackDown Live. We thank Wrestling Inc. for the quick heads up.
In case you didn't know...
Dolph Ziggler won the US Championship in a triple threat match against Baron Corbin and Bobby Roode. He would relinquish his Championship on SmackDown Live, walking away after leaving his big prize in the middle of the ring.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
This would lead to a tournament getting underway. The two semifinal matches featuring Jinder Mahal vs. Xavier Woods and Bobby Roode vs. Mojo Rawley are slated to take place this week on SmackDown Live.
The heart of the matter
Next week's episode of SmackDown Live comes to us from the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. The plan is to have a new United States Champion crowned at the event.
It is being speculated that the winner of the said match will go on to face Dolph Ziggler at the Royal Rumble.
This seems like a likely possibility because Ziggler never did actually say that he was surrendering the title.
The coming week should make everything clearer.
What's next?
SmackDown Live is only a few hours away. We are in for a treat as we get not one but two semifinal matches from the US Title Tournament. Will Ziggler make a comeback too?
Author's take
I predict a Dolph Ziggler vs. Bobby Roode vs. Jinder Mahal match at the Royal Rumble. For this to happen, Ziggler needs to take both finalists out with a superkick party.
Do check out this article to know my thoughts on how Ziggler can return!
