Maryse made a triumphant return to WWE television on the Raw after Wrestlemania 32, where she distracted Zack Ryder to help her husband, The Miz, win his fifth Intercontinental Championship. She then started appearing as his valet and it seems to have worked, as it helped hit the refresh button to The Miz’s character, with him having been toiling in the midcard aimlessly for the last few years. He has been on a roll ever since got drafted to SmackDown Live with Maryse at his side. He is currently over 147 days into his self-proclaimed “never-ending” Intercontinental title reign. This being the New Era, The Miz’, who has been one of the consistently most despised heels in the last decade, has recently been garnering some acclaim from fans and critics alike. This was demonstrated none more last week on Talking Smack, where SmackDown Live General Manager, Daniel Bryan, told Miz that he did not respect him and did not like his wrestling since it embodied the “WWE Style” that was present until a few years ago. The Miz was not silent about this and tore the leash holding him as he cut a passionate promo against Bryan, telling him how his style had kept him injury free the last ten years, and that if Bryan wanted to wrestle so bad, he could go to Bingo halls and perform with indie wrestlers. He also took a jab at Bryan saying that he promised to return but was never able to, calling him a coward.This led Bryan to storm off the show and bought a lot of buzz to the “ Hollywood A-Lister”. Among his biggest supporters was his wife herself, Maryse, who took to twitter to take a further jab at Bryan:

It will be very interesting to see where this angle is headed on SmackDown Live, as Talking Smack is a continuation of Smackdown Live, where all the wrestlers are in character. This explains Carmella attacking Nikki Bella from behind and The Miz’s promo. Although fans debated as to whether The Miz’ promo was a shoot or not, simply put, it was a worked shoot. However, there was clearly an element of truth to this promo, as his eyes were bloodshot red when he looked into the camera. It definitely lit a fire underneath him.
