What’s the story?
As has been the case for the last couple of weeks, Matt Hardy continues to insert more and more of his ‘Broken’ gimmick into his current WWE persona and did so again on his Twitter account after Payback.
The Background
There has been a lot of speculation as to whether Matt Hardy will be able to use his ‘Broken’ character, which he made famous in TNA, now that he is in WWE. The legal dispute with TNA over the rights to this gimmick is still ongoing, but rumours circulated last week that the WWE was willing to buy the rights to the character to use on their television shows.

These rumours have coincided with Matt using more of the ‘Broken’ character’s traits, such as the ‘Delete’ taunt, on WWE television and heavily teasing the fans on his Twitter account.
The heart of the matter
This continued after Matt and his brother Jeff were attacked by Cesaro and Sheamus after their Raw Tag Team Championship match at last night’s Payback. As you can see from the tweets below, Matt’s response to this assault has been very much in the style of his TNA character.
What’s next?
Although the legality of WWE using this persona is still unclear, the recent antics of Matt Hardy suggest that the ‘Broken’ gimmick, or something similar, may be coming to Monday Night Raw in the coming weeks.
Many fans speculated that last night’s post-match attack on The Hardys could be a way to trigger a transition into the beloved characters and if Matt’s Twitter activity is anything to go by, that could well be the case. Furthermore, the Hardyz showed further signs of being ‘broken’ in the latest episode of Raw as they gestured ‘delete’ before running into the ring towards Cesaro and Sheamus.
Author’s take
It would obviously be great for all wrestling fans if the ‘Broken’ Hardys were able to use their infamous personas on WWE television and the possibility of that becoming a reality seems greater than ever, especially after the latest episode of Raw.
