WWE Mixed Match Challenge isn't doing as well as they thought

What's the story?

WWE's latest Mixed Challenge episode on Facebook Live saw a major drop in its viewership.

Despite featuring the likes of The Miz, Asuka, Big E and Carmella, the show performed quite poorly as compared to last week.

In case you didn't know...

The WWE launched the Mixed Match Challenge as a Facebook Watch exclusive that was first aired on 16th January. For this challenge, twelve teams were formed to battle it out to the top and each of these teams consisted of one male wrestler and one female wrestler.

Following that announcement, the WWE Universe greeted the idea with a positive response. However, this week's viewership stats have another story to say.

The heart of the matter

In this week's mixed-match challenge, The Miz and Asuka came together to take on Big E and Carmella. "The Empress of Tomorrow" ended up grabbing Carmella in her Asuka lock and eventually, the latter had to tap out.

Although it featured The Miz who is now an 8-time Intercontinental Championship and WWE Superstar of the year, the show was not appealing enough for viewers. The numbers suggest that this week's live viewership reached its highest at 91,000 views as compared to 135,600 live views that were recorded in the first week.

Overall, the viewership dropped by 30% approximately and left the promotion surprised at the decline.

What's next?

The latest episode will be added to the WWE Network on Thursday. Next week's challenge will see Braun Strowman and Alexa Bliss taking on Sami Zayn and Becky Lynch.

This week's winners- 'The Miz and Asuka' will face the Finn Balor (who were the winner of the first episode) five weeks from now.

Author's take

It is too soon to judge whether the show is going to be a hit or a flop with the audience. There have been interesting combinations of wrestlers exclusively for this show that have the potential to make way into the main storylines featured on RAW or SmackDown.

As for the drop in the viewership, WWE will now have to put up more 'never seen before' moments to keep their viewers interested for long.
