What's the story?

This week's Raw was the much awaited 25th Anniversary of the show. The show had segments which disappointed and did not live up to the hype, but the Intercontinental match between Miz and Roman Reigns was not one of them.

WWE Superstar, The Miz was able to regain his Intercontinental Title from "The Big Dog" and gave a promo backstage about the importance of the victory. He said that the match the sold-out stadium at the Barclays Center witnessed was one they would talk about for the next 25 years.

In case you didn't know...

Miz lost the Intercontinental Title to Roman Reigns before the New Year and was off television for a few weeks due to filming commitments. He recently returned to Raw and made a direct beeline for the Intercontinental Title.

The two faced off for the Championship on this week's episode of Raw, where Roman lost the title. Roman missed Miz with his Spear and went head first into the exposed turnbuckle, which Miz took immediate advantage of with a second Skull Crushing Finale for the win.

The heart of the matter

After winning the title, Miz was interviewed backstage about his victory over Roman Reigns and becoming an 8-time winner of the Intercontinental Title Winner.

He commented on the historic nature of the show saying it was the biggest one that WWE had ever had and brought to attention that there were two shows taking place, in the Manhattan Center and the Barclays Center.

"To go out in front of a sold-out Barclays Center, and have them.. booing or cheering, I really don't care, but witnessing a match that they will talk about for the next 25 years, a match between Miz and Roman Reigns for the most prestigious title in WWE, the Intercontinental Championship."

He commented that the moment was one of the most important in WWE history, and would always be remembered.

He went on to say that it was he who had made the Intercontinental Title prestigious again, and it was so important that he had won in the Barclays Center but would be going to the Manhattan Center to show it off. He then left the arena to go to the Manhattan Center.

What's next?

Miz will continue to defend his title in the future and is going into the Royal Rumble as the Intercontinental Champion.

Author's take

Somehow Miz defines what the Intercontinental Title stands for an brings it an insane amount of prestige. His love for the title elevates its importance and actually comes close to making it the most prestigious title in WWE.
