What's the story?
In what has been a two-year long journey, Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder have been doing their best to prove that they're the #1 team on Monday Night Raw. Tonight, they finally proved that.
In case you didn't know...
The Top Guys were the first team to ever hold the NXT Tag Team Titles more than once. While on the Yellow Brand, Dawson and Wilder defeated some of the best tag teams to ever run through there, including American Alpha, The Ascension, and #DIY.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Their run through Monday Night Raw, though, has not been as successful. Though they started out incredibly hot, debuting with a huge win over the New Day, a few injuries kept them away from the top of the division where they belonged. After they finally came back, they struggled to move up the ranks. This summer, though, The Revival managed to pick up some impressive victories, even managing to pin former Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
Throughout their run on the main roster, Dawson and Wilder have driven the point home that tag team wrestling is underappreciated in the WWE, and that they wanted to change that. In a Fatal-4-Way tag team match last weak, they earned an opportunity to do that, becoming the #1 contenders.
The heart of the matter
In a fantastic back and forth contest on Monday Night Raw, The Revival faced off against Bobby Roode and Chad Gable, a makeshift team that has bested the best duos Raw has to offer throughout 2018 and 2019. Multiple times, in fact, the champions pulled out wins over the Revival, but tonight would not be one of those nights.
After a grueling contest, Scott Dawson flattened Bobby Roode with a DDT, leaving himself and Chad Gable in the ring. Dawson escaped from multiple role ups and tagged in Dash Wilder, putting away the multiple time tag champ with the Shatter Machine, finally picking up their first main roster title.
What's next?
The Revival has been a subject of controversy in the world of professional wrestling. Reports claimed that they were looking to leave WWE and move onto greener pastures after poor booking. However, now placed at the top of the tag team division, Dawson and Wilder have an important promise to keep. They have to turn tag team wrestling into something big and prove that the division deserves more.
There's a lot of great teams on Raw for the Top Guys to face. And with a team as good as them holding the titles, it's safe to say the division is in good hands.
