What’s the story?
WWE Champion Randy Orton has continued to poke fun at the independent scene on social media, posting a gif on Twitter this morning. Orton has been leading the way for SmackDown Live ever since his WWE Championship victory over Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 33.
In case you didn’t know...
Over the weekend Randy Orton caused the world of professional wrestling to go up in arms, courtesy of comments he directed towards Bubba Ray Dudley and the independent wrestling scene.

Since then there’s been a back and forth between fans over platforms like Facebook and Twitter, with Orton continuing this vendetta of sorts against indie stars.
The heart of the matter
In the tweet, Orton posted a gif of a diver being RKO-ed out of nowhere by none other than Randy himself. As has been the case with all of his tweets during this saga, fans have gone crazy over it, and it seems as if Orton has the majority of independent wrestlers in the palm of his hand.
He also posed for a tweet alongside Drew Gulak following SmackDown Live.
What’s next?
This issue will likely continue over the next few days and weeks, with the story being good exposure for some of the independent stars who have involved themselves in it.
In terms of Randy’s in-ring future, he’s preparing to face Jinder Mahal on Sunday at Backlash in what could end up being one of the most shocking WWE Championship matches in recent memory.
Author’s Take
We’re never going to get tired of this, despite Randy’s questionable reasons behind starting the whole ordeal in the first place. Bringing back the RKO meme to coincide with it will continue to give Orton some good exposure, and at this point, he comes across as being way more entertaining outside of the ring than he is in it.
