WWE.com has today confirmed that the legendary Rey Mysterio will return to action this Monday on RAW, when he faces off against Gran Metalik of Lucha House Party!
The match takes place three weeks after The Greatest Mask Of All Time opened up to Charly Caruso in an emotional backstage interview, and was likely about to announce his retirement and unmask himself before being interrupted by his son, Dominick.
WWE.com reports:
Three weeks after his son Dominick pulled him from the brink of retirement, Rey Mysterio will compete on Monday Night Raw, taking on fellow luchador Gran Metalik of Lucha House Party in one-on-one combat.
As Dominick no doubt watches closely, how will The Ultimate Underdog fare against the high-flying Metalik as the masked warriors square off in legendary Madison Square Garden?
Meanwhile, our own Tom Colohue has reported the reason why Dominick looks set to skip NXT and debut on WWE RAW as the black and gold brand is no longer set to be considered as WWE's developmental brand ahead of its move to the USA Network.
Following this, Tom reported:
Since then(August 15), I have learned via backstage sources that the NXT's proposed move to USA may have had some part in this. One source told me that with NXT elevating to the level of a Raw or a SmackDown, it would no longer be seen as the developmental brand and so some superstars that might not require further development would be skipping the brand altogether.
This is reinforced by Triple H himself, who told Tom Colohue following WWE NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff:
There’s three banners. There’s RAW, there’s SmackDown, there’s NXT.
