What’s the story?
In the past few minutes, Rolling Stone magazine tweeted out an article naming The Miz as their WWE Wrestler of the Year, and The Miz has reacted in the most Miz way possible.
In case you didn’t know…
Rolling Stone magazine celebrated its 50th year this year, and the legendary rock music magazine seems to be broadening their horizons to cover the pro wrestling world.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Most wrestling fans have a huge admiration for The Miz for revitalising the typical old-school heel role, both on the mic and in the ring, but it's surprising to see Rolling Stone choose him for the accolade.
The heart of the matter
Rolling Stone tweeted this:
The article even praises Miz as the "de facto leader of Raw for most of the past several months, stepping up when others were hurt or stuck in storyline limbo, taking his licks against the biggest names in the biz and coming out scathed but frequently hoisting Intercontinental gold above his shoulders."
Miz saw the Tweet and responded in a way that only Miz could...
Now, a lot of people may say it should have gone to AJ Styles, Roman Reigns, even Braun Strowman, but it's hard to argue with Miz. His story is incredible. He has gone from reality TV start to WrestleMania headliner and has now established himself as one of the veterans of the game, and one of the most reliable - being pushed into the main event whenever injury or illness strikes.
The whole article is available here.
What’s next?
Well, The Miz is currently off TV filming and his wife Maryse is currently pregnant with their first child, so we may not see a lot of him for the foreseeable future, but we hope he gets that Rolling Stone cover. The A-Lister deserves nothing less.
Author’s take
While I personally wouldn't have chosen The Miz, I'm not throwing a flag on it. Before his move to RAW, I was clamouring for Miz to be in the WWE Championship picture, shouting my head off for a Miz v AJ Styles rivalry.
Miz holding the Intercontinental Championship just seems right, he is a champion. He elevates the title and it gives him immense credibility. Miz TV is indeed the most must-see segment on WWE TV, and The Miz is probably the single most believable heel in wrestling.
His feud with John Cena leading up to WrestleMania this year felt incredibly real, and his feud with Dean Ambrose may have run out of steam much quicker if not for Miz cutting immense promos on a weekly basis.
We couldn't agree more, Rolling Stone, Miz is... Awesome!
