The Heart of the Matter
The feud between The Miz and Roman Reigns for the Intercontinental Championship has been the biggest feud for the title since The Miz and Dolph Ziggler went to war for the belt in the fall of 2016.
Reigns' victory back in November made him the 17th Grand Slam Champion in WWE history. While The Miz’s victory on Raw 25 made him an eight-time Intercontinental Champion – making the A-Lister one championship reign away from tying Chris Jericho’s record.
Some fans were critical of Reigns winning the Intercontinental Championship due to many fans thinking Reigns was only getting the title to head into WrestleMania 34 against Brock Lesnar with both championships on the line.
The Miz’s victory last week on Raw 25 lead to many abandoning the WrestleMania 6 remake theory, but the belief amongst fans is that Reigns is still headed to the main event of WrestleMania to challenge Lesnar for the Universal Championship.
Another rumoured WrestleMania match was The Miz defending the title against Braun Strowman. But if that is still the planned Intercontinental Championship match, there are no signs of a feud between the host of MizTV and 'The Monster Among Men'.
What’s Next?
With WrestleMania season in full swing, it will be interesting to see what becomes of the Intercontinental Championship as the weeks progress.
Author’s Take
The Miz has a good chance of heading into WrestleMania with the title and tonight’s match will be a big determining factor in that goal.
